Oil Painting
Sonja Darlene Grinstead The beginning of a long love affair with colourbegan prior to a first showing of a large oil painting entitled "Mums", which was shown with Lakehead Visual Arts in1971 at the prince Arthur Hotel. A lengthy involvement with Lakehead Visual Arts provided various opportunities to exhibit, sell paintings and custom art which consisted of oils, water colours and pastels. Basically self-taught resulted in spontaneous works. Hired by the city of Thunder Bay to teach junior and adult art classes for approximately 5 years inspired the way to competition. In 1987 a Regional Competition jerried out of Toronto at Thunder Bay Art Gallery, won Grinstead a first place award over more than 20 regional and local artists. The winning entry was a large oil painting entitled "The 20th Balloon Celebration of Achievement", and is on permanent display at Confederation College. Grinstead's time out to attend Bible College in Eastern Canada for 2 years won her a credited course and a Ministers License in 1995. The passion for colour spilled over into the music realm and song writing, which are all intervened for the purpose of creativity.
